How To Remove Gum From Car Mat?
To get you out of this problem, we have four different methods. Each method is very simple, and you do not need to manage a large number of materials to get rid of them. So let’s check them one by one.
Methods 1: Use Oils/Alcohol to Remove the Gum
Using oil or alcohol is a great way to remove gum from mats. Although oil and alcohol are not the same things, the application process is very similar.
Step 1: Apply the oil or alcohol using a cloth.
The first step is to apply the oil or alcohol with a cloth. Rubbing alcohol to remove gum from car mat is not enough, that is not the right way. First, you have to apply the oil or alcohol, and then you have to wait for five minutes.
Step 2: Scratch it with a knife.
When you apply the oil/alcohol, you will find that the gum will become less sticky after a moment. By using a knife, you should scrape it off slowly without damaging the mat.
Step 3: Clean it with simple dish soap
since you are using oil/alcohol to remove the gum. You need to clean the mat after the process. To remove this, use dish soap. After the wash, all remaining gum and oil residues will be removed.
Methods 2: Steam Cleaner
This approach is quite popular and simple to use. In this situation, a steam cleaner machine would be the main component. The other extra tools will be very simple; you will find them at home. So, no worries.
Let’s get started.
Step 1: Use the steam cleaner machine to steam or heat up the gum.
Turn on your steam cleaner first, then place the steam hose against your sticky gum. Until it is properly heated, leave it in this position for 4 to 5 seconds.
Step 2: Use a normal brush/ scratcher/ e-brush to remove it
Now start using the brush if you feel it starting to become loose. It would be more appropriate if you are able to use an e brush because its constant rotation force will remove it pretty quickly.
Other than this, you could also use a scratcher, but that is a little harsh, so it might scratch your car mat.
Anyway, keep scrubbing it for 10 to 12 seconds. During this time, most of the gum should be removed. However, some gum residue will also be there. To remove that, you have to perform this one or two more times.
A quick heads up: Though it’s a quick process to remove the gum, we don’t recommend it because it might scratch your fabric floor mats. If it’s a rubber floor mat, then no problem.

Methods 3: Freezing the Gum
Similar to steam cleaning techniques, this method is also fairly quick. The primary component in this situation is ice because the gum needs to be frozen in order to be removed.
Step 1: Freeze the gum
We can use normal ice to freeze the gum, but it’s preferable to use an icepack because the ice will cause the mat to become wet. Place your icepack on the gum and leave it there for five to ten minutes.
The more you freeze, the less sticky it will be.
Step 2: Use a spoon or knife to remove the gum.
Once the gum becomes hard, you are ready to remove it. To remove the gum, you can use a spoon or knife. A knife is even more suitable to remove it, but keep in mind that you need to use a blunt knife. Otherwise, your mat will be accidentally cut off.
Now slowly and securely scratch them so that they come off easily. If you think it is still very sticky, then freeze it more. Now again, scrap it. A large portion of the gum should be removed by now.
Step 3: Clean the residue
Still, you will see some gum residue left on your car mat. These stains are extremely obstinate and difficult to remove. You can use a dry cleaning solvent for removing gum.
For example, perchloroethylene can be used to remove this. You must add this and then rub it with a cloth to complete the procedure. The dry cleaning solvent reduces the stickiness of the gum residue.
Methods 4: Chewing Gum Remover Spray
Using a chewing gum remover is the most efficient way to get rid of chewing gum from your car mat. This method is quicker than other methods because it can remove chewing gum from your car immediately.
On top of that, these remover agents use a citrus formula, which makes them stronger.
Step 1: Apply the chewing gum remover to your gum
Firstly, spray the gel or liquid on the chewing gum that is stuck on the car mat. Once the gel has been applied, wait for a few minutes so that it can make a reaction and reduce the sticky properties of the gum.
Step 2: Remove the gum either using a knife or scrubber
You are allowed to use any of those things to remove the gum. If it seems more stubborn, then use the knife; otherwise, use the scrubber or normal clothes. The chewing gum remover contains the strongest agent, making it less time-consuming to get the gum out.
There is most likely some gum residue on the mat that will not be removed from the fiber. If it happens to you, then you can use a vacuum to suck it up from the mat. Once you remove the gum and its residue, clean the area with soap water, or any other cleaner.
Final Word
See? It won’t even be that hard to get gum off car mats. Here we have shared four methods in total. Each of these methods is very simple and easy to remember. It is your responsibility to implement these methods according to the materials you have available.
In the first method, you can use either oil or alcohol to get rid of the gum. The application is the same for both stuff. For the second method, you will need a steam cleaner to heat up the gum before removing it.
the third method involves freezing the gum, while the last method requires using gum removal spray.
Each method correctly describes how to remove gum from a car mat by following exceptional techniques.
